About Us

                                    Who We Are

Ultimate Fighting League - Sierra Leone (UFL-SL), Inc. was born from a simple but radical belief — that no young person should have their future stolen by drugs.

Across Sierra Leone, thousands of young people are trapped in cycles of poverty and addiction, living in slums, ghettos, and shanty towns with little hope for tomorrow. UFL-SL stepped in where others stepped away.

We engage youth across all forms of sport — from martial arts and football to athletics and beyond — creating safe spaces where they can compete, grow, and rediscover their worth. We don't just give them something to do. We give them something to live for.

Our team comprises of coaches, mentors, community leaders, and advocates who understand the streets — because many of us came from them.

                                 Mission Statement

To rehabilitate drug-addicted youth in Sierra Leone through sport, transforming them into healthy, confident, and productive citizens.

                                  Vision

A Sierra Leone where every young person has the opportunity to thrive — free from addiction, full of potential.

                                  What We Do

Youth Sports Programs: We run structured, multi-sport programs designed to engage at-risk youth in regular physical activity. From training camps to tournaments, we keep young people active, disciplined, and connected to a positive community.

Drug Rehabilitation Through Sport:  Our core program pairs sport with rehabilitation support, offering a structured pathway out of addiction. Participants receive coaching, mentorship, and community accountability as they work toward sobriety and a new identity.

Community Outreach:  We go into the slums, ghettos, and shanty towns to find youth who need us most. No referral required. We meet them where they are.

Mentorship & Life Skills:  Beyond sport, we equip young people with the tools they need to succeed in life — communication, discipline, goal setting, and employability skills.

Advocacy & Awareness We work with communities, schools, and local leaders to raise awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and the power of sport as a solution.

Our Story

Ultimate Fighting League - Sierra Leone (UFL-SL), Inc. Founded in 2000 | Established by Abu Bakarr Saccoh

The story of Ultimate Fighting League - Sierra Leone (UFL-SL), Inc. begins at the turn of the millennium — a defining moment in Sierra Leone's history, when the nation was still healing from the wounds of a brutal civil war that had left an entire generation scarred, displaced, and vulnerable.

It was in this climate of pain and uncertainty that Abu Bakarr Saccoh saw not just a crisis, but a calling.

In 2000, with little more than vision, courage, and an unshakeable belief in Sierra Leone's youth, Saccoh founded UFL-SL. He had witnessed firsthand the devastating grip that drug addiction had taken on young people in the slums, ghettos, and shanty towns of Sierra Leone — communities where hopelessness had become a way of life, and where harmful substances offered a false escape from poverty and trauma.

Saccoh believed sport could be the antidote.

Drawing from the universal language of athletics, he began organizing sports engagements in some of Freetown's most underserved communities — creating safe spaces where young men and women could channel their energy, rebuild their confidence, and find a sense of belonging outside of the streets.

What started as a grassroots effort quickly evolved into a structured movement. UFL-SL grew to encompass multiple sporting disciplines, rehabilitation support, mentorship programs, and community outreach — all rooted in one core conviction: that every young person, no matter where they come from, deserves a fighting chance.

For over two decades, UFL-SL has remained on the frontlines — not in a ring or on a field alone, but in the very communities others have forgotten. Under the continued leadership and vision of its founder, the organization has touched thousands of lives, pulling youth from the margins of society and placing them on a path toward health, purpose, and citizenship.

Today, UFL-SL stands as a testament to what one man's vision — and a community's collective will — can achieve. The fight is far from over. But with every youth reclaimed from addiction, Sierra Leone wins.
